What does "no fees unless we recover" mean?

In pre-litigation, our fees are contingent on recovery. If nothing is recovered, no fees are billed. External disbursements may still apply (e.g. process server), but only with your authorization.

The pre-litigation mandate includes: file preparation, demand letter (included), structured follow-ups (written + phone), negotiation and payment arrangements where viable, and a clear decision point (continue / litigate / close).

Can I ask for just a demand letter?

Yes. We offer a flat-fee "demand letter only" option. That said, a single letter can sometimes be ignored — the pre-litigation mandate includes a follow-up sequence and structured negotiation.

My debtor isn't responding — what do you do next?

That's common. We work to reach the right person (accounts payable / controller / management), conduct structured follow-ups (written + phone), and aim for a useful response: payment, negotiation, or a structured dispute. We then recommend the most logical next step.

Can you collect if the debtor is outside Ontario?

Yes. We review the situation (documents, jurisdiction, strategy) and propose a tailored approach (Quebec, other provinces, United States, Europe).

Are cross-border fees also on contingency?

In cross-border pre-litigation, yes: no fees unless we recover, at the percentage applicable to the region. External disbursements may apply depending on strategy.

Will you automatically sue in court?

No. We favor effective solutions (negotiation / mediation) where possible. If court is necessary and viable, we propose a tailored strategy and fee arrangement.

Does a judgment guarantee payment?

No. Obtaining a judgment isn't always the end: an enforcement stage may be needed. We advise you on the options suited to your file.
